The 2020 Barracuda Championship at Tahoe Mountain Club runs as the alternate event to this week’s WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational for the top names on the PGA Tour and the rest of the world.
A more level playing field helps to create excellent betting value. Below, we’ll look at the best prop bet picks for the Barracuda Championship.
2020 Barracuda Championship: Matchup bets
Adam Schenk vs. Troy Merritt (+100)
Merritt missed the cut at last week’s 3M Open while Schenk tied for 41st, but Merritt was T-8 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic for the most recent top 10 of either golfer. Merritt finished second in this event last year while gaining 2.68 strokes per round on the greens, according to Data Golf, but he was also above the field average in SG: Tee-to-Green and SG: Approach.
Ryan Moore (-125) vs. Russell Henley
The top tournament favorites are pitted together in a head-to-head tournament matchup, with Moore retaining his odds as the favorite. Henley tied for 15th last year at Montreux Golf & Country Club, but Moore is coming off of a T-12 result at the more competitive 3M Open last week. Henley missed the cut.
Taylor Gooch vs. Si Woo Kim (+110)
Kim is oddly priced as the underdog in this matchup. He was just T-46 in the relatively weak field last week, but he was T-18 in a strong field and in difficult conditions at the Memorial Tournament the week prior. Gooch was T-18 last week but missed the cut at the Memorial. Neither has played here before.
2020 Barracuda Championship: Placing bets
Top 5: Branden Grace (+700)
With 13 professional wins to his name, Grace is one of the most accomplished golfers in this alternate field. He has missed four consecutive cuts, but that has mostly been the fault of his putter. He’s worth backing against softer competition at an inflated number.
Top 5: Sebastian Munoz (+900)
Munoz was off last week following his T-48 in the difficult conditions at Muirfield Village Golf Club for the Memorial. He won the Sanderson Farms Championship earlier this season against similar competition and should turn in one of his best results since.
Top 10: Robby Shelton (+700)
Shelton seems to have escaped recency bias following last week’s T-3 finish at minus-16. He surged up the leaderboard with a Sunday round of 7-under par, but he averaged 1.42 SG: Approach and 2.66 SG: Tee-to-Green for the week.
2020 Barracuda Championship: First-round leader bet
Scott Stallings (+5000)
Stallings tops this field by ranking seventh on the PGA Tour this season with a first-round scoring average of 69.00 through 17 events. He finished sixth in a much stronger field at the Travelers Championship after opening with a 64 and shot a third-round 64. He has shot 65 or better in four of 20 rounds since the restart.
