Tracker: Tiger Woods looks to bounce from opening-round 76 at Zozo Championship

Are you ready for some live, shot-by-shot analysis of the one, the only Tiger Woods? We’ve got you covered.

Tiger Woods returned to action on Thursday, but it wasn’t pretty. He shot 4-over 76, his highest score in 49 trips around Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California, near Los Angeles.

The 82-time winner on the PGA Tour is competing at the Zozo Championship at Sherwood in his first event since missing the cut at the U.S. Open at Winged Foot last month.

Woods has his work cut out for him if he plans on defending his 2019 title — his most recent triumph and the one that tied him with Sam Snead for most career victories won on Tour.

Woods tees off for his second round at 2:51 p.m. ET from the 1st tee alongside Matthew Wolff and Xander Schauffele.

Keep up with Woods’ second round shot-by-shot below.

Hole 4 – Par 4

Tiger made bogey here on Thursday, but he’ll have a chance to do better on Friday thanks to a 292-yard drive down the middle. It was one of those pokes where you don’t even have to see where it landed, just look at Tiger spin the club and bend for his tee and you knew it was a good one. His approach from 141 yards is a green-light special and this shot is money. How do you like 2 feet for birdie? Tiger with the tap-in bounce-back birdie.

Hole 3 – Par 3

197 to the hole today and first chance to see Tiger hit an iron other than wedge. It’s on target and he’s safely aboard but maybe needed another club as he comes up 38 feet short. Work to be done on the green and he rams the birdie putt 6 feet past the hole. Missed it to the right and that is a 3-putt bogey. No bueno.

Hole 2 – Par 5

Did you know Tiger did something yesterday he’d never done before? As my colleague Steve Dimeglio wrote, it wasn’t something to brag about because Tiger made bogey or worse on three par-5s in a single round. On his first of the par 5s Friday, Tiger drove it 279 yards into the right rough. Yes, another miss to the right. That was his bugaboo yesterday. He chopped it back into play, leaving himself 128 yards for his third shot. Perfect yardage to dial in a wedge and Tiger did just that, one hop and a stop just 4 feet from the back-hole location. That was tasty. Easy birdie. Red figures for the day.

Hole 1 – Par 4

It’s a gentle start to Sherwood Country Club. Tiger, dressed in black pants and wearing a black long-sleeved sweater over his golf shirt, teed off with an iron at the 324-yard opening par 4 and found the left side of the fairway. From 86 yards, he wedged to inside 7 feet. This is more like it, showing off his distance control. But he missed the birdie putt. Bit of a letdown. He’s got to take advantage of those opportunities. Tiger settles for par.
